RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research interests can best be summed up as "all things stratigraphic". Specific interests include: conodont biostratigraphy and taxonomy (also interested in integrating forams, ammonoid, and other paleontological and biostratigraphic data), regional and global chronostratigraphy, carbonate and siliciclastic sedimentolgy, ichnology, geology of North America (with an emphasis on the Midcontinent and Rocky Mountain regions), diversity in science, science education.
Prior to returning to school for my doctorate, I spent 9 years in the petroleum industry where I primarily worked Jurassic and Cretaceous strata of North Louisiana and East Texas. I also have some experience working the New Albany Shale in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. In addition I have minor experience working the subsurface of Oklahoma, South Texas, and the Permian Basin of West Texas.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Jan 2018 to Present - Consulting Geologist for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) providing technical editing for the AAPG Bulletin.
Jan 2009 to Present - Consulting Geologist (Tulsa, Oklahoma): Consulting has ranged from working on correlations in East Texas-North Louisiana salt basins and the Anadarko Basin of Oklahoma.
Currently serving as a technical editing consultant with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) - reviewing articles for the AAPG Bulletin, post peer-review, for technical accuracy and consistency
Geological consulting is focused on time-constrained correlations (conodonts) in Mississippian strata of Oklahoma, including outcrop-based field trips for industry in northeastern Oklahoma, southwestern Missouri, and northwestern Arkansas.
Jun 2009 to Dec 2012 - Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant, Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, Oklahoma): Taught intro geology labs. Also taught labs for upper-division courses, including Stratigraphy-Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology for Engineers.
Nov 2007 to Nov 2008 - Geologist, Questar Exploration & Production Company (now QEP Resources) (Tulsa, Oklahoma): Prospected for potential drilling opportunities in the Jurassic (Smackover Formation, including Gray Sand; Haynesville Shale; Bossier Sandstone; Cotton Valley Formation) and Cretaceous (Hosston Formation; Pettet Limestone; Rodessa Limestone; James Limestone; Glen Rose Formation) strata in North Louisiana and East Texas Salt Basin.
May 2007 to Nov 2008 - Geologist, Apache Corporation (Tulsa, Oklahoma): Evaluated operated and non-operated drilling opportunities in East Texas and North Louisiana.
Aug 2004 to May 2007 - Associate Geologist, Samson Resources (Tulsa, Oklahoma): Responsible for geologic aspects of Cotton Valley and Hosston drilling activity in parts of North Louisiana; proposed possible drilling locations on operated properties and evaluated proposed drilling on non-operated properties. Spent last year working the New Albany Shale (Devonian) in the Illinois Basin.
Sep 2000 to Aug 2004 - Associate Geologist, Questar Exploration & Production Company (now QEP Resources) (Tulsa, Oklahoma): Started as a contract geotechnician (offered to work for free during $2.50 gas, but they payed me anyway) supporting senior geologist, but later promoted to Associate Geologist. Responsible for monitoring drilling operations from a geologic perspective in Cotton Valley and Hosston/Travis Peak formations in East Texas-North Louisiana.
Jan 1999 to May 2000 - Graduate Teaching Assistant, Baylor University (Waco, Texas): Taught intro geology labs.
Sep 1998 to Dec 1998 - Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Tennessee (Knoxville, Tennessee): Taught intro geology lab and graded exams.
Jan 1998 to Jun 1998 - Graduate Teaching Assistant, Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, Oklahoma): Taught intro geology labs and three weeks of OSU Geology Field Camp.
